Want to explore one of the most beautiful of the Balearic Islands in a different way? This route around Ibiza on a motorcycle allows you to discover the best spots and enjoy the essence of Ibiza in its purest form.
Start your day early
Although Ibiza is not particularly large, you should still start your day as early as possible so as not to miss anything. The starting point is the city of Ibiza (Eivissa). Early in the morning you can enjoy a delicious breakfast by the harbour or in the old town. Don't miss the opportunity to try the local pastries or some bread with olive oil and tomato.
After getting your strength back, start your visit with a stroll along the city walls and its cobblestone streets. After a quick sightseeing tour, it's time to get on the bike and start the route.
Route around Ibiza on a motorcycle: heading North
The route to the north of the island is one of the most beautiful and most interesting to do on a motorcycle, because winding roads with stunning sea views await you there. On the way you can stop at different coves, the most recommended of which are Cala Benirrás and the beaches and coves of Portinatx.
You can also visit towns and villages near Portinatx like Sant Joan de Labritja, which has a beautiful old town. If you have some time to spare, take the opportunity to walk up to the Punta d'es Moscarter (it takes about 20 minutes) to take in the impressive views of the highest lighthouse of the Balearic Islands (52 metres high).
Stop for lunch and continue on your way
If you do end up stopping in Sant Joan you can eat there, or go to Santa Gertrudis, which stands out especially for its bohemian atmosphere.
After a good lunch and some rest, it's time to get back on the bike and visit some of the most popular beaches in the north and east, such as Cala Xarraca or Cala Mastella.
Heading inland on your route around Ibiza on a motorcycle
In the early afternoon, it's time to head south. You will pass through famous towns like Sant Antoni de Portmany and Sant Josep de Sa Talaia, the largest municipality on the island.
Interestingly, in Sant Antoni you can visit the monument Discovery of America, better known as the Egg of Columbus. In Sant Josep, a quiet atmosphere and some of the island's most beautiful beaches, such as Cala Tarida, await you.
If you like photography, in this area there are a number of viewpoints that are easily accessible by motorcycle.
Sunset views
Ibiza is full of great spots where you can enjoy a spectacular sunset, but since we are already in this area we can recommend two.
- Cala Comte. Watch the sun go down behind the islets and enjoy the views both from the beach itself and from the cliff area.
- Cala d'Hort. The sunset is even more magical here as you have views of the islet of Es Vedrà. You can watch from the viewpoint of Es Vedrà or what's known as 'Atlantis'.
Dinner and end of the day
You can eat well and enjoy the Mediterranean gastronomy almost anywhere on the island. If you want something lively, you can stay in the area of Sant Antoni and have dinner there and then experience the music by the sea. On the other hand, if you are looking for something quieter, you can return to the city of Ibiza and dine in the port area.
Recommendations for your route around Ibiza on a motorcycle
Travelling around the island with a good motorcycle is a unique experience that you will never forget. However, you can make it even more unforgettable if you keep the following tips in mind:
The best times to enjoy the island in peace and quiet are spring and autumn, when there are fewer tourists.
- Try to avoid the centre of Eivissa during rush hour. The streets of Dalt Vila are narrow and traffic jams are common.
- Carry your swimsuit and a towel in your backpack.
- Have a bottle of water and something to eat with you, because some coves do not have any kind of facilities.
- If you go in summer, remember to apply sun cream to avoid sunburn.
- Don't just settle for the most popular coves. Talk with the locals and they will happily recommend others that are much less popular.
- Include comfortable and closed shoes in your luggage in case you have to walk to reach a hidden cove or cave.
