Formentera, one of the Balearic Islands, is a destination that offers many activities and places to see, but with so much on offer you may miss some of its best spots. To prevent this, today we are bringing you a list of the best beaches of Formentera so that you don't miss any of them and get the most out of your trip to the island. When planning your stay, keep in mind that while some places are accessible by public transportation, others are less well-known more and isolated, so there is no better way to see the whole island and discover the most beautiful villages than by rental car or motorbike.
The 5 beaches of Formentera that you can't miss
Caló d'Es Mort
This is one of the best beaches in Formentera and therefore one of the best known, and there are plenty of reasons for this. It is located in the Migjorn area, about 10 kilometers from San Francesc Xavier. Its location makes it relatively isolated so it is in a very good state of conservation.
In addition, this area of crystal clear waters also has some old fishing boats and their tackle (also called escars), so if you fancy visiting this beach, we also recommend that you explore its surroundings. When planning your visit, keep in mind that the site has no catering services, so don't forget to bring whatever you are going to eat and drink. On the other hand, it is becoming more popular, so you should go as early as possible in the high season to find a good place.
Cala Saona
This is probably the most famous bay on the west side of the island, as it is one of the most beautiful beaches of Formentera. Its crystal clear waters make it an ideal place for snorkeling, and it is also protected from the waves. What you will find in this cove is a landscape very similar to the typical images that come to mind when you think of the Caribbean. On the other hand, Cala Saona has all kinds of services and is perfect if you are looking for a place to have a drink while watching the sunset or if you want accommodation in the area.
Es Cavall d'En Borràs
This beautiful beach lies between Platgeta d'es Carregadorand Cala Savina. Its waters are crystal clear and calm, almost as if you were in a natural pool. In fact, this bay is included in the Ses Salines Natural Area of Special Interest. To take full advantage of your visit to one of the best coves of Formentera, we recommend you also visit this natural area if you have the time, because you will not regret it. It is quite well known and therefore has all kinds of services available nearby.
Ses Platgetes
It is near the village of Es Caló de Sant Agustí and is made up of three small bays, making them, as a whole, one of the best beaches on Formentera. Its waters are transparent and it has fine white sand. It is also renowned as of the best places on the island for snorkeling and diving, with abundant marine life such as colorful fish and octopus. One of the best things about this beach is that it is still little known, so if you are looking for a quiet place in high season, this can be a very good option. However, as with lesser known sites, there are no services of any kind, so we recommend that you bring food and drink if you decide to visit.
Es Caló D'Es Ram
You can find this cove near Es Caló des Mort or through the Camí de Es Ram, between the villages of Es Caló and Pilar de la Mola. One of its main attractions, which also makes it one of the best places in Formentera, is that it is still relatively remote for tourists, so it is a very quiet place to enjoy a relaxing day. Access to the cove is a bit complicated, because you have to go down a narrow dirt road, but it is worth it.
It is also close to the la Mola lighthouse which is also on the beach, so you can complete your visit to the area by visiting the lighthouse, where you can see impressive views of the area.
