Rhodes is known worldwide for its famous Colossus although it is a statue that exists only in our imagination. However, the Greek island has a huge number of tourist treasures worth discovering. In fact, it is the largest island of the Dodecanese archipelago, and it is steeped in mythology, history and culture. This article tells you about some of the places you can't miss if you decide to make this trip. So, if you want to know what to see in Rhodes read on!

What to see in Rhodes? The 4 essential visits

The island of Rhodes is full of tourist attractions of great interest, and we are going to look at some of the most important ones. In fact, the best way to tour Rhodes is to rent a car in Rhodes and move freely around the island to enjoy the following sites:

Ancient City of Rhodes

The capital of Rhodes, with the same name, is one of the must-see sites on your visit to this island. In 1988 it was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, and today it is one of the best-preserved walled cities in the world. So much so that a walk through the streets of Rhodes inevitably takes you back to the 15th and 16th centuries.

Regarding the most interesting buildings, the Palace of the Grand Master of the Knights of Rhodes is one of the most impressive.

Other monuments that should be part of your travel route in Rhodes are the Clock Tower, the Acropolis or the Archaeological Museum, which in such an important cradle of civilization, deserves a visit.

Lindos

Any travel guide to Rhodes will list Lindos, about 50 kilometers from the capital, as one of the most beautiful places on the whole island. This fame is due to the appearance of its streets, all of them very narrow, where white houses rub up against taverns and stores.

Special mention should be made of the "captains' houses", whose facades are easily recognizable by their decoration. Although, if you go to Lindos, a visit to its Acropolis, unmistakable symbol of authentic Greek culture, is a must.

Kamiros

We stop, now, in the third oldest city of the island of Rhodes, located about 40 kilometers from the capital. It was founded back to the 7th century B.C., by the Dorians. The most interesting thing about this city is that, after going into decline, it became so deserted that it remained buried until the 1930s. Today, it is incredible to admire the remains of what was once one of the great neuralgic and commercial centers of ancient Greece.

What to see in Rhodes: a tour of its beaches

Take advantage of the freedom and mobility that having a rental car gives you, and one of the best routes you can take is to tour the incredible beaches of the island. These are some of the most beautiful and impressive:

  • Anthony Quinn: this rocky beach with crystal clear waters is perfect for snorkeling. It owes its name to the actor who starred in "The Guns of Navarone", and who had one of the largest properties on the island.
  • Lindos: the beach at the foot of this town offers unbeatable views, with white houses surrounding the impressive Acropolis.
  • Kallithea: this is the typical postcard beach. The promenade is made up of natural terraces, and the entire beach is surrounded by impressive palm and pine trees that show nature in all its splendor.
  • Vlycha: if you are traveling with children, this beach is perfect. Its form creates a kind of shallow pool, so that children can enjoy the sea without the risks associated with a more open beach.

The island of Rhodes has an enormous natural, artistic, historical and cultural heritage to be discovered. It also has another great advantage, which is that, as an island, it is very easy to get around if you rent a car. Vacations are there to be enjoyed, and renting a car is one of the best alternatives in this type of islands that have so many places to see within a relatively short distance.

At OK Mobility we know this, and that is why we provide you with the vehicle that best suits your needs in Rhodes, so that there is no interesting point on the island that remains to be seen.
