Greece is a country with a lot to offer. Nearly all its cities are full of history, but as in all countries, there are corners that are more magical than others. Therefore, today we bring you the most charming towns of Greece, those that will make your trip an unforgettable experience.

The first point to note is that while you can travel around the country using transport such as buses, the ideal way to enjoy a tailor-made trip, keeping your own schedule and without having to depend on anyone, is to travel with a rental car. Getting to know the beautiful roads to these villages will be a unique experience.

On the other hand, we warn you that in this list there are sites with an undoubted beauty, but which are really complicated to reach, such as Mount Athos, where you have to plan your visit a long time in advance.

Parga

This village probably represents quite accurately what you imagine when you think of typical Greek villages. It is in the prefecture of Preveza, on the northwestern Greek coast. This place, known as "the bride of Epirus" has a beach, nature and cultural life. We highly recommend a walk through its narrow streets that will take you back to another era, and which were coveted by the famous pirate Jeireddin Barbarossa. If you work your way up to the highest point of the hill, you will find incredible views of the town, its bay and the island of the Virgin Mary with its famous chapel. When you've finished soaking up its history, you can't leave without recharging your batteries by sampling the local food in one of its typical port taverns.

Kastraki and Kalambaka

These two villages in Greece have sneaked onto this list because, although they may not be some of the prettiest, they are located near one of the most spectacular sites in the whole country, the Meteora Valley and its monasteries. In this area there are huge rock formations where monasteries were built more than 7 centuries ago. They are declared World Heritage Sites and when you see them you will understand why. There are currently 13 of these monasteries remaining, although it is only possible to visit 6 of them. We recommend that you visit the monasteries of the Great Meteor and Varlaam. As it is such a unique enclave, the number of tourists coming here make it advisable to book your accommodation in advance.

Oia

This is one of the most charming villages in Greece. It is located in the Cyclades islands, specifically on the island of Santorini. Here you will find the typical white houses and windmills that come to mind when you think of Greece. It offers a picture where time seems to have stopped. It is a town with streets to get lost in, where you can visit its Venetian fortress and enjoy the view of the city as well as its cliffs. It also has a lively culture, with numerous art galleries. The beaches of Ammoudi and Armeni are outstanding, with warm, crystal clear water, ideal for relaxing after a pleasant walk.

Koroni

This village is in the prefecture of Messinia and is one of the villages in Greece that still preserves the look of a typical fishing villages. It sits on a hill under a Venetian castle and here you will have the opportunity to taste authentic Greek food and savor the freshest fish, right off the boat. You can stroll through its streets and visit its castle, as well as its beaches. Koroni is a real hidden gem and there are interesting archaeological sites nearby, and even other villas with fantastic views.

Loutro

We end the list with a place that exudes charm, which can only be reached on foot or by boat. This is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful villages in Greece and one that you will remember most from your trip. It is located on the island of Crete, so if you decide to visit the Samaria Gorge, you will easily find a ferry to discover the village. You can enjoy its beaches with crystal clear waters or explore the ruins of its castle in the hills. In addition, there are several trekking routes that vary in time to see its spectacular surroundings, ranging from 25 minute hikes to 3 hours depending on what you want to see. It is without doubt one of those villages in Greece that you can not miss.
