Being an island, you might think that a couple of days is enough to see all the most interesting tourism sights, but nothing could be further from the truth! Tenerife not only has a diversity in its beaches, but also in its villages and natural landscapes formed by the presence of volcanoes. To give you an idea of everything that awaits you, here are several routes around Tenerife that will allow you to travel the island from north to south.
Towns in the north: Garachico, La Orotava and Puerto de la Cruz
We start our adventure in the charming villages of the north of Tenerife. Our first stop is Garachico, a picturesque fishing village known for its cobblestone streets and historic charm. The main port of the island was located here, but some decades ago it was completely destroyed by lava. Explore its streets full of history and admire the remains of the ancient fortress of San Miguel.
The next stop is La Orotava, where you can marvel at its traditional Canary architecture and beautiful gardens.
Don't forget to visit the Casa de los Balcones, an old Canary mansion full of charm. Finally, there is Puerto de la Cruz; a lively coastal city that combines tradition and modernity. Enjoy its beaches, such as the iconic Jardín beach, or Martiánez beach, popular with surfers, and immerse yourself in the cosmopolitan atmosphere of this town.
Anaga Rural Park: nature in its purest form
The second route in Tenerife takes you into the Anaga Rural Park a natural treasure that will take your breath away and, as so often happens on this island, surprise you with contrasts, as you go from volcanic rocks to rainforests in a few metres.
Get ready to enter dense laurel forests, winding trails and breathtaking mountain scenery. Discover spots with panoramic views, such as the Jardina viewpoint, where you can look out over the sea of clouds that surrounds the summit, or the Cruz del Carmen viewpoint, popular for the various routes that start from there. You can also visit the charming village of Taganana, and enjoy authentic Canary food in its local restaurants.
Santa Cruz, Candelaria and El Médano: history and beaches
This route combines culture and incredible beaches. We start in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the vibrant capital of the island where the carnival is held every year. Explore the old town, visit the impressive Auditorium of Tenerife and stroll through its shopping streets. We continue to Candelaria, a sacred place for the Canary Islanders, where the Basilica of Our Lady of Candelaria, the patron saint of the Canary Islands, is located. Enjoy a stroll along the promenade and breathe the tranquility of this charming town. Finally, we head to El Médano, a world-renowned beach for lovers of water sports such as windsurfing and kitesurfing. Relax on its golden sands and enjoy the lively atmosphere of this coastal resort.
Teide: an imposing volcano
The Teide National Park is a must-see, home to the majestic volcano of the same name. The lunar landscapes and its unique volcanic beauty are a highlight for all visitors. Take the cable car up to the summit of Teide and admire the panoramic views of the island from the top. Walk the trails that wind through the park and marvel at the unique flora and fauna that inhabit this protected area.
Masca, Punta de Teno and Los Gigantes: wild nature
In this last route, we explore the wild parts of the west of Tenerife. We start in Masca, a mountain village hidden among impressive cliffs, where you will find the famous Masca Ravine hike, a unique experience that will take you through spectacular landscapes. Then, we head to Punta de Teno, which on the western tip; a remote and unspoiled corner with vertiginous cliffs and breathtaking ocean views. From there, you can take a boat to Los Gigantes, where you can marvel at the cliffs that rise from the sea.
