Cyprus is an island in the eastern half of the Mediterranean Sea, and a tourist destination that offers countless possibilities to those who travel there, such as its long history or excellent well-conditioned beaches. But as is the case with other destinations that are also islands, like Malta, the ideal way to get around and not waste a minute of your time is to have a private vehicle. That's why today we bring you a driving route in Cyprus that will show you all its charms.

Route through Cyprus by car

Although it is a European country, as usual, we will remind you of some tips for traveling abroad, about the weather, documents, insurance and packing your suitcase.

Also, if you are going to rent a car, remember that it is advisable to do so well in advance. This way, you will be able to choose the one that best suits your needs and get a more competitive price. At OK Mobility we offer you multiple facilities, including the option to pick your car up at the airport.

Larnaca, the gateway

The city of Larnaca is an ideal starting point for your adventure in this country. Since the airport is located there, you can take the opportunity to explore the area without having to travel long distances, as getting around always saps energy.

You can explore the historic center and visit the 9th century church of San Lazaro, with the tomb of the saint who apparently returned from the dead. And before ending your day, take a swim at the popular beach of Finikoudes, and stroll along the promenade in search of a bar for dinner. If you like diving, take the opportunity to visit the wreck of the Zenobia.

Nicosia, the divided city

Your next stop is Nicosia, the capital of Cyprus and a really interesting city. It is divided between two countries: the northern part is controlled by Turkey, and the southern part, which is the official capital of the country. Its main attractions are the Museum of Cyprus, where you will see archaeological remains that tell you about its history and culture; the Venetian walls of the sixteenth century, with the gates of Famagusta, Paphos and Kyrenia and the narrow streets of the city.

Ancient Kourion

The third stop on your Cyprus driving tour is the ancient city of Kourion. It was a Greek and Phoenician colony and became rich thanks to trade, but it is also one of the best places to look out over the sea. The places of interest that you should not miss are the House of Eustolios, with baths, mosaics and rooms dug into the ground; the theater, which dates from the Hellenistic period but is still in use today, and other ruins such as the agora, the stoa or the basilica.

The beaches of Limassol

The next destination on your driving route is the coast of Limassol. This town is famous for its beautiful beaches of golden sand and crystal-clear waters. It's the second most populated city in the country, but you'll have plenty of room on the sand to relax and enjoy a quieter day. After all, they are one of the main attractions of Cyprus! To round off the day, spend the evening exploring the lively nightlife, full of bars and restaurants of all kinds.

Paphos, the city of kings

After your swim in the waters of the Mediterranean, head southwest to Paphos, a city rich in mythology, with several sites of worship devoted to Aphrodite, and cultural heritage. You can explore the Paphos Archaeological Park, located in New Paphos and declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and discover the impressive Roman mosaics dating back to the 2nd and 3rd centuries. We also recommend you head to the beautiful port, which is the most modern area of the city.

The Troodos Mountains

To experience the natural beauty of Cyprus, head to the country's largest mountain system: Troodos. You can drive along the scenic roads and admire the breathtaking panoramas. There are options for all tastes, safaris to discover the natural world, cultural excursions, a visit to the Greek Orthodox monastery Kykkos or to lose yourself in villages like Omodos, Platres or Kalopanayiotis.

If you have a car, your route through Cyprus can be as varied and spectacular as you wish, as you will have total freedom of movement. Rent your car in Larnaca or in Paphos and start designing your trip today!
