Peñiscola
Starting in Castellón, the first stop is Peñíscola. The first sight of the city is sure to impress you, with the great castle crowning it at the edge of the sea. Its medieval streets and entrance gateways will transport you to another era. In fact, part of the tourism boom in Peñíscola is due to the fact that it featured in one of the scenes from Game of Thrones, precisely because of its charm.
Alcocéber
If you like the beach, a stop in Alcocéber is a must. Located in the Sierra de Irta, it has some of the most beautiful beaches in the community, many of them embedded between cliffs. In addition, you can visit the coves around the mountain range, such as Cala Mundina or Cala Blanca. In Cala Mundina you can't miss the opportunity to visit Hades Cave.
Castellón de la Plana
Being the capital of the province, a visit to Castellón is also a key stop on the route. Here you can visit the main square, Ribalta Park, Santa María co-cathedral, Lledó basilica and the El Fadrí tower, among other places. You can even check out an air raid shelter that was built during the Spanish Civil War. Making the trip of around 15 miles from Castellón and making the most of your rental car, we recommend you don't miss the caves of San José.
Valencia
From provincial capital to provincial capital, in this case, Valencia. This city also surprises visitors through its bright atmosphere, the combination of beach and nature and its historic centre. Highlights include: Valencia Cathedral, the Basilica of the Virgen de los Desamparados, the church of San Nicolas (inside, known as the Sistine Chapel of Valencia), Llotja de la Seda and the central market. If you have time, be sure to admire the Palace of the Marqués de Dos Aguas.
L'Albufera
Heading down from Valencia along the Valencian coast, you will pass through part of the L'Albufera Natural Park, a natural site that deserves its good reputation. The most remarkable feature is the large lagoon that gives it its name, where hundreds of aquatic species and birds take refuge.
Beaches of Gandia
The beaches of Gandia are among the most popular in the province of Valencia, where we can highlight the main beach and the Grao lighthouse. A great spot to connect with the sea.
Jávea
Jávea is one of the most beautiful towns on the Valencian coast, and stands in the province of Alicante. Take a stroll through its historic centre, visit the church of San Bartolomé or the municipal market, and tour the natural park of Montgó.
Cap de la Nau
The Cap de la Nau viewpoint and its lighthouse is another point worth paying a visit if you travel the Valencian coast by car. It is also one of the top places to go scuba diving. From here, you can also visit some of the nearby coves, such as Cala en Caló or Cala Moraig.
Altea
Along with Jávea, Altea is one of the most charming towns in the Alicante region. Most characteristic is the church of Nuestra Señora del Consuelo, which stands out in the city centre thanks to its impressive blue ceramic domes. And, if you like a good view, we recommend heading up to the viewpoint on the town walls. Heading down towards Alicante, a must-visit are the caves of Canelobre.
Alicante
We couldn't finish off the route anywhere but the capital of the province, Alicante. Here you can visit the Plaza de los Luceros, Alicante's most iconic square, the castle of Santa Barbara, the cathedral of San Nicolas, the port of Alicante or the Santa Cruz neighbourhood and its decorated houses.
