Extremadura, and more specifically, Badajoz, might be a mystery to many, but it’s sure to surprise you! Badajoz is a great destination to rent one of our cars and move freely wherever you fancy. We’re going to show you a great campsite in Badajoz you’ll come across along the way and where you can set up base.

Things to see in Badajoz

The Alcazaba is definitely one of the city's must-see attractions. This monumental Arab fortification was witness to the foundation of the city itself by Ibn Marwan al-Chilliqui back in the ninth century. At this time it was the most important Muslim city in Europe.

Divided into 4 zones, the Alcazaba is the oldest military building in the city. From here you can enjoy the breathtaking views and stunning sunsets.

You can’t miss out on the Plaza Alta, which was the centre of Badajoz for a long time. Here you can observe its architecture and arches, which were home to plenty of market stalls in the Middle Ages.

You’ll come across a wonderful place very close to Portugal: Jerez de los Caballeros, a town with a profound Templar footprint. At 500 metres above sea level this enclave was deemed privileged and valued by the Templar Knights that were here. One of its main attractions is its wall, made of masonry with granite ashlars. You can’t miss out on the Templar Fortress, preserved in excellent condition and home to the Torre Sangrienta or Bloody Tower, now a wonderful viewpoint.

Finally, we would like to point out the Monastery of Tentudia, 9km from Calera de León, to the south. This is one of the greatest examples of Spanish Mudejar art surrounded by nature and worthy of paradise. You can’t miss out.

These are just a few examples of the attractions this city has to offer, but if you want to move around a little more, these campsites in Badajoz are perfect.
