Whether you're planning a long vacation or a whirlwind getaway, you will certainly want to know what to see in Asturias, because this region has a lot to offer. We suggest you get behind the wheel and fasten your seat belt, because we are going to tell you about the best destinations in this beautiful autonomous community.

Cangas de Onís

Located in the heart of the Picos de Europa National Park, this municipality is one of the best known in the area and its fame is certainly well deserved. It has a rich architectural heritage in which the Roman bridge and its Old Town are particularly impressive, without overlooking its wonderful atmosphere.

Lakes of Covadonga

When it comes to things to see in Asturias, lakes are a definite winner. If you are in Cangas de Onís, you can take the opportunity to get in the car and go there, because they are just a few kilometers away. On the way you will come across the Basilica of Santa María la Real de Covadonga and the Santa Cueva, and you should not pass up the opportunity to visit these two incredible sites.

Once your visit is over, you can continue your ascent until you reach the lakes. Enol and Ercina will be waiting for you at an altitude of more than 3,000 feet, surrounded by a natural landscape that is truly spectacular.

Arriondas is unmissable if you are looking for things to see in Asturias

Arriondas and Sella are names that are inextricably linked. If you are planning to complete the descent of the river Sella, you will have to pass through this town, as it is the starting point of the International Descent. But this town has much more to offer.

One of its main attractions are the Indiano houses, built by emigrants who left for the American continent between the second half of the 19th century and the first half of the 20th century. Most of them took advantage of their newly acquired wealth to build palatial houses with a very distinctive style.

Bulnes

No, this is not the famous mountain of Naranjo de Bulnes, although if you are a nature lover and are fond of mountain sports, you should also put this mountain on your travel itinerary. In this case, we are talking about the small town of Bulnes.

An almost magical village, nestled between mountains, which you can reach on foot or by funicular. Nearby is the beginning of the Ruta del Cares, which runs through a spectacular gorge where rock walls combine with bridges that seem almost impossible.

What to see in Asturias if you visit Llanes

This is another of the best known municipalities of this autonomous community, and it is a great place to visit if you want to combine beach tourism with gastronomic and cultural activities, but we are going to propose something even more original: going in search of dinosaur footprints.

At Merón beach you will find a 600-meter long path at the foot of a cliff that leads to a sandstone stratum, and on its surface you can clearly see 12 consecutive footprints of a quadrupedal dinosaur. In addition, in the area you can also see tridactyl ichnites of biped dinosaurs.

Ribadesella

Another unmissable classic to include on your route if you want to be aware of what to see in Asturias and return home knowing that you have seen the absolute must-sees.

Ribadesella is a beautiful coastal town located at the mouth of the Sella. Although it seems like everything revolves around the beach, we recommend you take a walk through the old town. You will be surprised by unique buildings such as the emblazoned house of the Ardines family and the curious pattern that make up the wooden gazebos in combination with the colorful facades.

Silencio Beach

Over 300 meters long, its crescent shape and crystal clear waters have made it one of the most beautiful beaches in Spain in its own right. Even if you are not visiting Asturias in summer, we recommend you stop by, because its beauty will leave you speechless.

If you still have some time left in your trip, be sure to visit the largest cities of this autonomous region. Gijón, Oviedo and Avilés have a lot to offer. Each with its own character and unique gastronomic specialties. Now that you know what to see in Asturias, you are probably eagerly awaiting the date of your trip.
