Are you planning your next break in northern Spain? If so, do not miss our recommendations on what to see in San Sebastian if you only have a couple of days to spend in the capital of Gipuzkoa. Start the engine and get ready to visit some of the most important points of interest of this beautiful city.

What to see in San Sebastian on the first day

Getting to know the Old Town

We recommend that you get up early to make the most of your time in the city. We start strong, in one of the key points, the Old Town. You will find the streets full of atmosphere at any time of the year, but even more so in regatta season (the first two Sundays of September).

You can start your visit by seeing the beautiful exterior of the Basilica of Nuestra Señora del Coro and visiting the Calle Mayor, which is just across the street. From there head to the port for a spectacular view of the Concha Bay.

Then continue on your way to City Hall.

There is still a lot to explore in the Old Town, from the Alderdi Eder Park to the Bretxa Market, without forgetting the Plaza de la Constitucion.

All along your way you will find bars and taverns where you can taste all kinds of pintxos, so do not hesitate to make a pit stop if you need to recharge your batteries.

Barrio de Gros

We continue exploring what to see in San Sebastian. In the afternoon of your first day, walk along the Alameda del Boulevar and cross the Zurriola Bridge to reach the Gros neighborhood, one of the most popular in the city and one of the busiest for tourists.

In this area you can take a pleasant walk, starting at the Kursaal building and heading towards the sculpture of the Dove of Peace. Along the way you can watch how surfers tackle the might of the Cantabrian Sea.

If you still feel like walking as the sunset approaches, climb Mount Ulía and you can watch the sun set over the city. Although it is a bit of a climb, the truth is that the views you get when you reach your goal are well worth the effort.

What to see in San Sebastian on the second day

We started this day in a relaxed way, with a pleasant walk along the Concha beach. You can walk along the sand, or enjoy its distinctive promenade, whose lampposts and railings are famous around the world. In any case, you will find a calm and quite relaxed atmosphere.

Walking through this area will take you to the Miramar Palace, which was once the residence of Queen Maria Cristina. It cannot be visited inside, but you can enjoy its gardens.

On foot, by car or mountain railway, you can climb Mount Igueldo to enjoy the views from there. If you like attractions, you will find a small amusement park here that delights all visitors. On the way down, continue walking towards the Peine de los Vientos (Comb of the Winds), a sculptural ensemble that is already a symbol of the city.

Afternoon in the center

In the afternoon of your second and last day you will get to know more about the city center, where the main protagonist is the Cathedral of the Good Shepherd, an imposing building.

On your walk through the downtown area you will find a good number of stores and boutiques, so you can take advantage of the opportunity to do some shopping. Among the places you can not miss are the Victoria Eugenia Theater, the Plaza de Guipuzkoa, the Santa Catalina Bridge and the Tabakelera (which today is a center of contemporary culture).

Sunset from Mount Urgull

At this point in your visit you have already been to two of the most important mountains in the city, so you are missing the third. Mount Urgull has hundreds of nooks and crannies to discover, but we especially recommend the Baluarte del Mirador, the Napoleon Battery, the Castillo de la Mota and the English Cemetery.

In addition, from this area you will also have beautiful views of the sunset that, for sure, you will never forget. From there you can head back to the Old Town to enjoy the local cooking at dinner.

Now that you know what to see in San Sebastian, it's time to start organizing your trip. Need a car? It's no problem, we are at your disposal to rent the vehicle you need in San Sebastian.
