Have you ever wondered what there is to see in Dubrovnik? If you have, read on, and if you haven't, read on. We will tell you all the secrets of this spectacular city and how to enjoy it on a two or three-day getaway that will fill you with its magic and charm. We start by taking a tour inside its walls. Entrance must be through the main gate, known as the Pile gate. This is where the most fascinating adventure you've ever imagined begins in this delightful Croatian city.

Don't know what to see in Dubrovink?

When you enter the Pile Gate, look at the moat. Although today it is a garden, which will dazzle your eyes with color and beauty, once it was a defense moat with water. At that time the city was closed at night. The first thing you will see when you enter the walls is the Onofrio fountain, on the right hand side. In the past it was very important because it supplied water to the whole city. And if you look to the left, you will see the access to the walls.

Near the Onofrio fountain is the church of Saint Saviour This church is special because it has survived bombing and an earthquake. It stands right next to the Franciscan monastery. Between the two buildings is a passage leading to the pharmacy museum. This really is an unusual pharmacy because it was founded in 1317 and is still active today. You should not miss the opportunity to buy the rose-hip cream that is still made there. One of the most deeply rooted traditions of the place is to watch people trying to climb the facade of the monastery. According to legend, those who manage to stand upright will find love.

If you keep on walking in this area you will come to the heart of the main avenue known as Stradun Street. Once there, don't miss the chance to look into the alleys on the left. They are all narrow and have stairs that reach up to heaven. This is a visual delight that you can only enjoy in this charming Croatian city. To the right of the main avenue there are also several alleys except for one called the wide street. There was a barn at the end of this street through which all the goods moved. And that is the reason they designed this street with more space.

Don't miss what to see in Dubrovnik in the afternoon

We started our visit to this fantastic city by entering through the walls, but we have not told you how best to visit them, because the ideal time to appreciate their charm is in the afternoon. There are fewer people then, and they are a great place to watch the sun go down. You access the city walls on the left side of the Pile gate, where you entered the city.

After strolling along the city wall we recommend you to go to the beautiful Luza square. The bell tower there tells the time in Roman numerals. And you can also see one of the most exquisite monuments of the city, the church of St Blaise. This church was built in the Venetian baroque style. Even more dazzling, however, is Palazzo Sponza, which is open to the public, even at night, with exhibitions. And best of all, admission is free.

We recommend that you do not miss the chance to walk under the clock tower when you go to the old port.

The panoramic view from outside the walls is incredible. Take the opportunity to walk along the harbor to Dubrovnik Cathedral, known as the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. And, of course, you shouldn't miss a visit to the famous Game of Thrones stairs where you can climb up to the Church of Saint Ignatius.
