One of the most suggestive and magical corners in all of Spain. A destination famous for its beaches and its gastronomy, which hides other lesser-explored treasures. This impressive road trip to see the viewpoints of Galicia will be hard to forget!

The most impressive viewpoints in Galicia

A viewpoint is a natural window to enjoy the most spectacular landscapes. Most of them are related to a singular point of nature (coast, mountains, wetlands).

But some viewpoints overlook a city’s iconic skyline. Among the viewpoints of Galicia we have selected some of both, so that you can combine natural and urban landscapes.

Route through the spectacular viewpoints along the Costa da Morte

Undoubtedly, this is one of the most spectacular and representative natural environments of Galicia. A jagged coastline with cliffs and some legendary lighthouses. We had to start with these viewpoints in Galicia. Out of all the options, we can highlight these two:

Monte de San Adrián Viewpoint (Malpica de Bergantiños)

Set the town of Malpica as your destination in your car's navigation system. Once there, head southwest on the AC-414 (Casas Vellas exit). A local road will lead you to the Ermita de San Adrián. A journey parallel to the coastline that foreshadows the spectacular views seen from its highest point.

From this unique Galician viewpoint you will enjoy a spectacular contrast of landscapes. Against the backdrop of the Sisargas Islands, enjoy the full force of the sea breaking on the cliffs, inhabited by colonies of seabirds (gulls or guillemots). Not to mention the seaside town of Malpica with its hanging houses.

Fisterra Lighthouse Viewpoint

This is probably the most famous viewpoint in Galicia. Its name dates back to the time of the Roman conquest. They were the ones who baptised this point of the peninsula, considered the limit of the known world at that time (2nd century B.C.).

Enjoy an infinite view of the Atlantic Ocean from the westernmost lighthouse in Europe. If you can choose the time, visit at sunset. A whole ritual of renewal revolves around this experience.

To get there, you have to go to the town of Fisterra, either on the AC-441 towards Muxía/Fisterra or by the coastal route, which is a bit longer (AC-552).

The Santa Tegra viewpoint, in Rías Baixas

If you are touring the province of Pontevedra, the beaches of the Rías Baixas are within reach. They are often compared to those of the Caribbean, for their fine white sand and calm waters. However, they are much colder.

Reserve some time to visit the Santa Tegra Viewpoint, with one of the country’s most unique landscapes. From this summit, you can enjoy three worlds simultaneously: the mountains on the border with Portugal, the mouth of the Miño River and the immensity of the Atlantic. This Galician viewpoint is also located near one of the best preserved castros (Celtic settlements).

It is easily reached by road toward the town of A Guarda, from Vigo by the PO-552. From there, you can reach the summit by car and use one of the various car parks. There are also cafes, an archaeological museum and a small chapel in the area.

Galicia's viewpoints for urban spirits

Finally, for those who are more attached to urban environments, there is also much to enjoy in Galicia. We suggest these three points where you can let yourself be seduced by the skyline of some Galician cities.

  • La Alameda Viewpoint. Santiago de Compostela’s legendary profile is perceived in all its glory from this enclave. Its incomparable cathedral stands out among the domes of the old part of the city.
  • Paseo de Alfonso XII Viewpoint. The most "romantic" balcony of the city of Vigo, where you can enjoy its characteristic seafaring life, with its omnipresent mussel rafts. In the background, the view of the estuary with the Cíes Islands.
  • O Parrote Viewpoint. Exclusive destination for those who value the elegance that characterises the city of A Coruña. It allows the so-called "Crystal City" to be contemplated in all its splendour. The impact of the sun's reflections on these glazed facades is impressive.

Any of these viewpoints in Galicia will remain forever etched in your retina. An easily accessible road trip, as simple as renting a car at Santiago de Compostela airport with OK Mobility.
