Our neighboring country has a lot to offer in terms of landscapes and leisure attractions. One great option if you have a few days off is to organize a 7-day route through Portugal to get to know some of its highlights. Although it should be noted that a week will give you enough time to see the main attractions, if you have more time it is always advisable to explore some of its lesser-known corners. In any case, to make sure you don't miss anything, at OK Mobility we want to recommend some of the places you should not miss on your route.

Day 1 of the route through Portugal

The ideal place to start the route through Portugal is Oporto. This city has a multitude of sights to visit. The starting point to get to know the city will be its historic center, where you will find some of the wine cellars of the area listed as World Heritage Sites. Continuing with the visit to the center, you should not miss the Cathedral, as well as the church of San Francisco and the palace of the stock exchange. A stroll through its medieval streets will transport you to another era. In addition, the boat ride through its bridges is especially recommended.

We recommend you to rent a car in Porto to follow the route we propose for the following days.

Day 2, getting to know Aveiro and Costa Nova

The next stop on the route through Portugal will be Aveiro. Here you will find a city crisscrossed by a network of canals and colorful houses.

It is an ideal place to park the car and walk around, since the is build on a flat area. It has several museums, such as the Museum of Aveiro, but its main attraction is to take a stroll around the city.

On the other hand, the next destination will be Costa Nova.

These two places are a good combination since it is not necessary to spend a lot of time getting to know them. In this site you will find the famous colorful houses, a particularly interesting place for photography lovers.

Get to know Sintra on day 3 of your Portugal tour

This is one of the most spectacular places on the route through Portugal due to its palace, which is one of the major tourist attractions of the country.

The Pena Palace was once home to Portuguese royalty and is in a wonderful state of preservation, both inside and out. Being such an well-known attraction, we recommend visiting early or in low season if you want to enjoy it without too many people. However, it is not the only place to see in this city. Quinta da Regaleira is also a spot you should not overlook. And, if you have time to spare, don't forget to visit the Parque da Pena or the Moorish Castle.

Day 4 and 5, getting to know Lisbon

The capital of the country deserves a longer stop on your route through Portugal. Although Lisbon it is a relatively small city, it has many things to offer and places to discover and nooks and crannies to discover. From cultural attractions to a wide range of nightlife, this city is sure to have something for all types of visitors. It should be noted that, in addition to the car, you can travel around the city by streetcar, bus or even tuk tuk. One of your first stops could be a walk through the Alfama and Castelo neighborhoods.

You can continue with Lisbon Cathedral and the Belém Tower, as well as the Jerónimos Monastery, the latter two considered World Heritage Sites by Unesco. Another very emblematic place in the city is the Santa Justa elevator, which connects the Baixa and Chiado neighborhoods.

On the other hand, you can not leave without trying its gastronomy, in addition to its excellent restaurants we recommend the local dessert, the Pasteis de nata or Pais de Belém, named after one of the best bakeries in the city.

Lagos, a place to relax on day 6

You will have passed many beaches, but this is a perfect occasion to cool off. What is more, at this point you will find a place full of legends about pirates and sailors. Some of the highlights in Lagos that make it a place to stop on your route in Portugal are the Castle of the Governantes or the Ponta da Bandeira fortress. A place to relax and enjoy its streets and food.

Day 7, Cabo da Roca and Óbidos

Finally, these are some of the villages where you can end your route through Portugal. At Cabo da Roca you will find the westernmost lighthouse in Europe. On the other hand, Óbidos is a small walled village ideal to put an end to the route.

It is quiet and has the typical atmosphere of Portuguese villages, so you will feel all the charm of this land.
