Recently, the prestigious newspaper The Washington Post recently named Morocco as one of the top tourist destinations in the world in 2023. This data confirms the Arab country as one of the top destinations, and since 2021, tourism in this country has increased by nearly 300%. It is therefore not surprising that more and more people are choosing to visit Morocco during their vacations. And, undoubtedly, the best way to get to know the country in depth is to rent a car with which you can move freely. If you are thinking about it, here we tell you which are the best road trips in Morocco by car that you can do from Marrakech, take note!

The best road trips in Morocco from Marrakech

Marrakech airport is one of the busiest airports in terms of daily flight traffic, especially from Spain. Therefore, it is the ideal place to rent a car to drive around the country during your stay in Morocco. But what are the most interesting trips you can take to make the most of your stay?

Marrakech-Essaouira

One of the trips that you cannot miss out on is the one that runs for almost 200km from Marrakech to Essaouira, one of the most cinematographic cities in the country. In fact, it has witnessed all kinds of film and series shoots: Othello, Star Wars and Game of Thrones are just a few examples.

Once in Essaouira, the best thing to do is to head into its streets and walk along the promenade and the port. You might also find it interesting to admire the Medina of Essaouira, one of the most famous in the country.

Marrakech - Ouarzazate

The second trip we suggest has as its final destination Ouarzazate, a city located about 190 kilometers from Marrakech. On this route you pass through part of the Central Atlas, one of Morocco's greatest natural attractions. On your way, it is worth stopping at Tizi n' Tichka, the highest road pass in North Africa, reaching 2260 meters.

There are not many miles separating Marrakech from Ouarzazate, but the travel time is longer, as it is not advisable to go very fast through this area, but you should enjoy the scenery and stop to recover from the twists and turns. After passing the port, an interesting stop is Ait Ben Haddou, a legendary location in the world of cinema and a village declared a World Heritage Site. The final destination is Ouarzazate, a city where movie buffs can visit the Atlas Studios, the most prominent film studios in Morocco.

Draa Valley

This trip will take you a bit farther from Marrakech, but it is worth it. The Draa Valley covers an area of about 100 kilometers, and is located on the border with Algeria. The Draa Valley offers a desert landscape where you can enjoy the largest set of dunes in the country, and visit the ksour, adobe fortifications that were used to protect the cities.

Marrakech-Casablanca

If you prefer a more urban destination, you can choose to visit Casablanca, about 240 kilometers from Marrakech, and spend a night there. Once there, you can visit the Hassan II mosque, which is the second largest mosque in the world after Mecca, and walk through the entire medina.

Other interesting places to visit are the Sacred Heart Cathedral, Mohammed V Square or the Central Market, where you can buy food and have it cooked on the spot.

Marrakech-Beni Mellal, one of the least touristic routes through Morocco

Another trip that we propose is the one that separates Marrakech from Beni Mellal, a distance of about 215 kilometers. Although it is not one of the most touristic cities in Morocco, Beni Mellal has interesting attractions, such as the fountain of Ain Asserdoun or the castle or borj of Ras el Ain. In addition, it has a special significance for Jews, because in this city is buried Shlomo Amar, one of the most famous rabbis.

As you can see, there are multiple trips that you can take by car from Marrakech, enjoying the freedom to move without being tied down and being able to do as you like every day. And, when your vacation is over, it's as easy as dropping off your rental car at Marrakech airport just before your return flight. At OK Mobility we believe that vacations are there to be enjoyed, so we give you the option of renting the most suitable car for you and forgetting about transportation during your stay in Morocco. Just worry about enjoying yourself!
