This is one of the most enchanting cities in Europe. If you have a free weekend and you're not sure where to go, a great option is to see Madrid in 3 days. Heading to this capital city will offer you a large number of cultural opportunities to spend the day and an impressive nightlife, so it is perfect for all types of travelers. In addition, its surroundings also have natural areas that you are sure to love.

How to get around

vitally important part of seeing Madrid in 3 days is the issue of transportation. If you are going to focus only on the center of the capital, perhaps the best option is public transportation. It has good connections and is economical. But, if you want to get to know more of the community and not just stay in the center of the city, your best option is to rent a vehicle in Madrid.

The Old town, the hub of every city

All cities have a preserved old town, some better, some worse, but without a doubt it is an obligatory stop in all of them. If you are looking to see Madrid in 3 days you cannot skip its old town, with highlights including thePlaza Mayor. There have been 3 fires in its history, the most devastating being in 1790. This has meant that it has been rebuilt several times, but still retains elements of earlier times.

If you want to learn its history in depth as well as much of the old town, you will find different tours in the area. In addition, special mention must be made of the calamari sandwich, a classic of this area that you need to try while you are there.

Museums

If you want to see Madrid in 3 days you can't miss its museums either. One of the most significant is the Prado Museum, which houses the works of famous painters such as Velázquez and Goya. If you are not looking for a trip dedicated to art and museums, we recommend that you at least visit the area around the museum.

The Paseo del Prado is worthwhile in itself and is also a very emblematic site in Madrid. In it you will find the Royal Botanical Garden and the CaixaForum, a space dedicated to exhibitions and a facade that will surprise you.

On the other hand, if you want to get all the artistic side of your visit, not far from the Prado Museum is the Reina Sofía Museum.

Retiro Park

Another must to see for your 3-day trip to Madrid. Here you will find not only a large green space in the middle of the city, but also a place where many activitiestake place. You can rent a boat and tour its huge lake or visit an exhibition in its Crystal Palace. This park holds a great deal of things to see and you won't regret visiting it all. Together with the Paseo del Prado, they form part of what is known as the Landscape of Light, declared a World HeritageSite by Unesco.

Plaza España

If you want to see Madrid in 3 days, Plaza España is a must. We will warn you, however, that it is usually under construction. However, apart from the square itself, in this area you will find Gran Vía street, where the main theaters of the capital are located. Not far from it is the Temple of Debod. It was a gift from Egypt and visiting it will also provide you with one of the best views of the capital.

Royal Palace

This building was the former residence of the Kings of Spain and, next to the Plaza de Oriente, is a must to see Madrid in 3 days. You can even visit its interior and the Campo del Moro, the gardens behind the palace. There is a special sense of calm compared to the hustle and bustle of the capital.

Surroundings of Madrid

Seeing Madrid in 3 days should not only consist of seeing the city, its surroundings are also very worthwhile. Although it would make for an article in itself, you cannot overlook the mountains of Madrid and the surrounding villages. If you are looking for natural landscapes you can go to the Puerto de Navacerrada, especially beautiful in winter.

And, of course, you cannot miss the Royal Monastery of San Lorenzo de El Escorial. This building is not only one of the most emblematic buildings in the community of Madrid, but also in the whole of Spain.
