The Christmas season is approaching and a great place to celebrate it is the Spanish capital. In addition to the classic street lighting, Christmas caroling and the many events that are organized in Madrid, some of the best places you can go to enjoy the spirit of this holiday are the different Christmas marke

For this reason, at OK Mobility we bring you a list with all the ones you can't miss.

Plaza Mayor flea market, one of the most famous Christmas markets

The Plaza Mayor flea market is one of the most famous and recognized Christmas markets not only in Madrid but throughout the peninsula. Its history dates back to 1980, and it currentlyhas more than 100 booths. In them you will find all kinds of Christmas decorations, figures for the Nativity Scene or food and sweets typical of the holidays. You will recognize it by its red stalls and a design similar to the typical German flea markets.

This Christmas market is usually open from the end of November until December 31. Also, if you visit this market, the ideal thing to do is to walk towards Puerta de Sol, as well as stroll around the area to contemplate the lights and Christmas decorations in the center of Madrid, a real spectacle!

Madrid Río Christmas Market

This is one of the smallest and most intimate Christmas markets, with only about 20 booths. You will find the Madrid Río Christmas market in Arganzuela, behind the clock house, many other events are also organized (among them, charity Christmas markets) that you might find interesting to round off your visit to the market. Here you can buy everything from gifts and Christmas decorations to food to replenish your energy while you enjoy the area.

Something very special about this flea market is its 10-meter Christmas tree and its carousel for children. Likewise, the Madrid Río Christmas market is one of the markets that remains open the longest, from the first week of December until after Epiphany.

Christmas markets in Ópera

You will find this Christmas market in the Ópera Square, which houses a multitude of booths where you can try typical products of the peninsula, as well as items specifically related to Christmas, such as ornaments or Nativity scenes. However, although it is not exclusively dedicated to food, the highlight of this flea market is both sweets and hot chocolate.

It is not one of the largest in the capital, and another point in its favor is that it is not usually very crowded. It usually opens at the end of November and closes a little earlier than the rest of the Christmas markets, at the end of Christmas Eve and Christmas. Undoubtedly, it is a great option to combine this visit with a cultural walk through the historic Madrid of the area. However, remember to hurry because it is one of the markets open for the shortest time.

El Gato Christmas Market

The particularity of the El Gato Christmas market compared to the others is that it is held under cover. It is held from December 3 to January 5 at different venues and on different dates. Some of the locations are The Westin Palace Hotel and the Centro Cultural de los Ejércitos. It is expected to have 60 exhibitors including fashion products, costume jewelry, collectibles or gourmet quality food. It is undoubtedly an excellent option if you want to see one of the most unique Christmas markets. However, their prices are also less economical than those of the other flea markets on this list.

A new option among Christmas markets, El Corte Inglés

The El Corte Inglés Christmas market is not on the list of classic Christmas markets, but it is undoubtedly positioning itself as a great option within the markets of the capital. You can find them in front of several of the stores of this well-known commercial chain, the most popular being the flea market in front of El Corte Inglés on Castellana Street. In its various booths you will find decorative items, as well as representations of the Nativity Scene. However, its gastronomic section is especially noteworthy, with several well-known brands of sweet and savory food.
